Carmel International Shipping Services (1992) Ltd., the Israeli general agents for China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co.- Cosco- informed that Cosco's general management decided to name one of their new container vessels, launched last August, as "COSCO HAIFA".
"COSCO HAIFA" a container ship, registered in Hong Kong SAR of China, was built in 2012, length 261 m. TEU intake : 4,253.
According to Carmel, the decision to name the newly built container ship with an Israeli port name was taken after many years during which the matter was discussed internally. Carmel noted that they hope the company will name one of its future container ships as "COSCO ASHDOD".
The new vessel has entered Cosco's new Gulf of Mexico Express service, all-water service between East Asia, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico Express service, designated GME, deploys eight Panamax ships with capacities of 4,200 20-foot equivalent container units apiece on the new service, with Cosco providing six ships, including the Cosco Auckland, and Hanjin Shipping, two. Cosco and Hanjin operate the GME as part of the CKYH Green Alliance, which also includes “K” Line and Yang Ming.
